SIMILAN

The Similan Islands are located off the coast of Khao Lak or around 100 kilometres north west of Phuket and provide arguably the best diving in Thailand. There are nine granite islands covered in thick tropical jungle, frindged by powder white beaches and surrounded with crystal cerulean waters. The area is a protected national park now but camping is allowed on the islands. Below the surface lies a diverse landscape of deep canyons, giant boulders, coral gardens, caves and walls.

Diving is almost always done off liveaboards that run out of Phuket or day trips from Khao Lak. There are many world class dive sites around the islands and all offer something different and exciting.

Dive Site at SIMILAN

Christmas Point
A lot of healthy soft corals at this dive site. Several shelves around this pinnacle forming homes for smaller reef organisms and crustaceans.
  North Point
Situated on the far northerly tip of island number 9 are these submerged boulder pinnacles that rise from 40 metres up to around 15

Batfish Bend
This site is less frequently visited by Similan liveaboards and that is one of its attractions
  Breakfast Bend
A beautiful place to dive in the morning when the early light intensifies the colour of the coral.

Snapper Alley
A gently sloping hard coral reef makes for an ideal day or night dive.

Donald Duck Bay
A rock resembling the popular cartoon character's head is perched on the north side of the bay.

Turtle Rock
An impressive series of submerged boulders and swimthroughs in typical Similan fashion.

Fantasy Reef
Another very popular dive site simply due to the sheer abundance of marine life found here.

Beacon Reef
This spot has recently become popular due to the sinking of the Similan

Beacon Point
There is a steep drop off here, a wall covered in a wide variety of hard corals.
